HERBAL TEA SUBMARINE
Bristol-based DIY singer-songwriter and producer herbal tea shares her new single 'Submarine', a track submerged in emotional haze. herbal tea - also known as Helena Walker - originally recorded 'Submarine' as a demo on her laptop. The track grew in intensity overtime, and is now featured on her forthcoming debut album Hear As The Mirror Echoes. Much like its namesake, the song invokes the feeling of being submerged with a steel-toned heaviness. Walker layers lo-fi textures to develop an expansive atmosphere that mirrors the vast, dark, cold terrain that submersibles are primed to navigate. Reverb-laden guitars dredge at an imperceptible distance at the start, drawing closer with languid strums as the percussion trudges forward in woozy stride. Walker's voice echoes achingly from above water, relaying hazy thoughts: 'I'm like a submarine/ I'm looking through the periscope/ Nobody sees me/ My eyes are only open for you/ Mind is barely open'. It captures sweeping search for somewhere obscure, or as Walker describes, "It touches on the feeling of wanting to disappear into a safe place, in the night, where you feel invisible. On 'Submarine', herbal tea's desire for withdrawal is rendered in slow-burn stillness, making it all the more impactful. Hear As The Mirror Echoes is due for release on 29th August via Gold Day. -Kayla Sandiford
